History of Modica Bros.
In 1963, J.C. Modica, a full-track scholarship student at Lamar University, drew on his experience helping his father manage gas stations to shape his post-college plans. Utilizing a closed-down cafe near his parents’ truck stop in Beaumont on College Street, he ventured into the tire business with the establishment of J.C.’s Tire Supply.
Having saved $10,000 (equivalent to $85,000 today) while on a scholarship and living at home, J.C. returned after college and Army Reserve service to run his business. Seizing an opportunity, he purchased land behind his father’s 11th Street gas station. With the support of his father, J.C. enlisted the help of his older brother Tommy and younger brother Sammy, and in 1970, they built the first Modica Brothers Store at the corner of Washington Blvd and 11th Street in Beaumont, Texas.
Referred to as “The Kid” by older tire store owners in town, J.C. rapidly expanded Modica Bros., continuing to grow and serve numerous communities. When asked about the key to success, he humbly attributes it to faith, sound financial management, hard work, and hiring the best employees.
